Director of HIM- Health Information Management
The Director of HIM ensures that patient medical records are maintained in accordance with all appropriate regulations and to support achievement of organizational goals by analyzing medical records for and contributing to development of hospital performance improvement strategies. Duties include directing and supervising staff responsible for records management, participating in performance improvement committees and supporting activities with data analysis. Directs development, implementation and administration of a comprehensive, organization-wide compliance program to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations and hospital policies. Responsible for monitoring and reporting results of compliance efforts to hospital management on all matters related to compliance and privacy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in health information management, health care administration or related field with a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible HIM experience.
- Must be credentialed as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator. (RHIA).
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge with Accrediting and Regulatory requirements for patient medical records
- Current knowledge about coding principals for ICD-9-CM and CPT-4.
- Familiar with Coding Clinic Guidelines for both inpatient and outpatient
- Skilled in conducting complex internal investigations with a high degree of tact and discretion.
- Initiative-driven, creative in handling multiple projects, adjusts to changing situations and needs.
- Knowledge of and experience with ethics, compliance, healthcare, financial and management principles.
- Working knowledge of CMS, HIPAA and State Privacy Laws.
